Wynberg Boys

Wynberg is proud of its reputation as an icon of South African,
schoolboy cricket. The History of a School (1961) by DH Thompson credits Mr Lloyd, a popular master at Wynberg during the 1880s, with establishing cricket as an institution.

Ten Wynberg boys have since played international cricket, including former England captain, Allan Lamb, and arguably the world’s greatest ever all-rounder, Jacques Kallis.

Wynberg prides itself on ‘firsts’ and these include becoming the first South African side to win the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament in Barbados in 1994.

Newlands Cricket High School

This institution is based at Sahara Park Newlands, the world-renowned cricket field that is considered one of the greatest cricketing stadiums in the world. The school is housed in the Century Club on the 3rd floor at the Southern end of the field.

We have applied to The Western Province Cricket Club, to make use of their wonderful facilities, the Indoor Centre and gymnasium; we hope that this application will be successful, as it would offer much to our players. A first of its kind in Cape Town, this school offers Grades 8 to 12 to its learners, starting this year by enrolling grade 8’s for 2015.

South African College High School

The S.A. College High School (SACS) is the oldest high school in continuous existence in South Africa. From the earliest days of it life in the Gardens, Cape Town, cricket has been played by its students, whether informally amongst the oaks on Government Avenue or on the manicured surfaces of its present-day playing fields at Montebello, Newlands.

Peter Kirsten, the greatest cricketer produced by SACS, was playing in the first team at 14 and went on to captain the South African National Team. Dane Piedt is our most recent Protea player.

Bishops Diocesan College

Bishops is one of the leading schools in South Africa as far as sport is concerned and our reputation for sporting excellence is world-wide. In keeping with the ethos of our school, we believe that sport plays a vital role in the development of young men. Bishops currently fields six open teams, four U15 teams and four U14 teams – with one or two U19 teams dropping out of the leagues in the fourth term because of the withdrawal of matric players and with many Grade 10 boys overseas on exchange.

At College, cricket is played on eight fields (1 field under lights) situated around the College campus and Lutgensvale. At any given time 11 games may be in progress. The College has fifteen artificial nets, four turf nets and four indoor nets.
